Do you ship fish all year long? Yes, we do. During the fishing season we try to estimate how much fish to put up for the winter so our customers will have our high quality, frozen salmon throughout the year.

How much advance notice do you need in order for me to receive an order? Generally a five day advance notice is adequate time for us to get an order to you.

How much more does it cost to ship salmon to my door? Additional fees to ship to your door are averaging about $1.20 per pound. Each place is different; please call or email for a specific price. Shipping to your door is accomplished by UPS and usually takes one extra day to arrive. Unlike Alaska Airlines, UPS doesn’t offer any cooling or freezing services while in transit so shipping with them often increases the likelihood of possible spoilage.

What can I expect my order to look like when it arrives? When your fish box(s) arrives at your nearest airport or wherever we agreed to ship it, it should arrive in good order. We package your salmon to withstand the rigors of travel by using insulated boxes, insulated liners and gelled ice whenever necessary. Upon arrival frozen salmon should still be frozen (although a little thawing and softness may occur in some instances) and fresh salmon should be cool. If your shipment ever arrives in poor or questionable condition, please let us know right away.

When can I buy fresh salmon? We usually have fresh salmon available from May until October. We offer high quality frozen salmon throughout the year.

How do you freeze your salmon? We take our fresh salmon to a local professional processor. Their skilled crew fillets, vacuum-seals and blast freezes our salmon. Blast freezing is a process where the fish is placed onto metal racks and placed in a -30 degree temperature. The fish is thus frozen quickly which locks in all the flavors you would expect out of a premium wild salmon. To ensure your product will be fresher longer we store our frozen salmon at -10 degrees because that temperature has proven to be the ideal holding temperature for frozen seafood.

How long will my frozen salmon last? Frozen salmon can last in your freezer for about 8 months. The colder your freezer, the longer you can hold your fish. Most house freezers are around 0 degrees F. Our commercial freezers at -10 degrees keep fish fresher longer; here, frozen fillets last 12 months or more.

What are the cooking differences between the four kinds of salmon? King salmon is the most oily of the salmon species and is thus difficult to overcook. Sockeye is more fragile to cook. Sockeye, also known as red, is the most visually attractive fish on your plate and has noticeably firm meat. Coho is the most widely used salmon for the food industry because of its ease of cooking and because it is more reasonably priced. Bright chum salmon is the most mild-tasting salmon we offer and thus goes well with a variety of sauces. Frozen coho and bright chum keep fresher longer because their oil content isn’t quite as high as king or sockeye. Sockeye is our favorite.

How often do you go out fishing? During the spring (early May through about mid June) we are often out fishing from Sunday night until Tuesday afternoon each week. During the summer weeks and into fall (from mid June through September) we are usually out fishing from Saturday night until Wednesday afternoon. These times and days may change as the Alaska Department of Fish and Game monitor our salmon fishery each week and often change our schedule.
