Lofoten Fish Company of Petersburg, Alaska,
is a family business, independently-owned
and operated by George P. Meintel and
Cynthia Wallesz, husband and wife. We are
commercial salmon fishermen and catch wild
Alaskan King, Sockeye, Coho and bright Chum
Salmon and ship them fresh and frozen to individuals,
small grocery stores and restaurants. Our mission at
Lofoten Fish Company is to provide you with the best
quality wild Alaskan salmon possible.

The salmon that live here are the real thing. Before we bring
them out of the ice-cold saltwater, these salmon are already
quality at its finest. While fishing we treat each fish with the
utmost care to ensure its superior qualities shine through. We
start doing this by immediately bleeding, cleaning and chilling
each fish before taking them to our homeport of Petersburg.
Then, we take the fresh salmon to a professional fish
processor to have them expertly filleted, vacuum-sealed
and blast frozen. The result is a wild Alaskan salmon of
impeccable quality ready to grace your plate!

Our fishing season runs from early May until late September.
We generally fish three days each week about 5 hours from
Petersburg. When we come home from a fishing week we
often sell our fresh salmon off of our boat (usually on
Thursdays and Fridays). If you are in Petersburg during
the summer please look for us! Our small fishing boat,
Lofoten, is in the Middle Harbor. Or you can always give us a call (907-772-2680)
to find out when we will be down on the docks with our fresh salmon.

The area in which we live is incredibly beautiful. Southeast Alaska’s rainforest is a patchwork of hundreds of islands and numerous marine waterways. We live and fish near the Stikine /Stikeen’/ River, or Great River, which was first named and utilized by Tlingit Indians and includes almost 20,000 square miles of Alaskan and Canadian wild lands. It is the fastest, free-flowing navigable river in North America. This area is known for its rich history and incredible ecological diversity supporting black and brown bears, mountain goats, wolves, moose and the largest springtime concentration of bald eagles in North America. The meandering Stikine River, with its snow-capped peaks and old growth forest, is home to many kinds of fish including all five wild salmon. We fish in front of the mighty Stikine River in the ice-cold, glacial waters of Sumner Strait and Frederick Sound. If you’ve never been to Southeast Alaska, please consider a visit!
The majestic peaks, pure waters, friendly people and succulent seafood will live
in your mind forever.

Petersburg, Alaska is a small island town located in the central part of the southeast Alaskan panhandle. Our island, Mitkof Island, is 23 miles long and 16.5 miles wide. There are no roads here to other islands or to the mainland and we are only accessible by plane or boat. Our beautiful community has a population of 3100 and we are known primarily for our mouth watering seafood and Norwegian heritage. In the summertime our small town is a flurry of activity as the fishing seasons are underway and everyone is working long hours to coincide with the natural fish runs and longer Alaskan days.
